RT from multiple twitter accounts… just my thoughts

This topic came up on twitter yesterday as someone tweeted that they didn’t like people with multiple accounts re-tweeting themselves as a means of promotion.

This prompted me to think about people who I  follow or more likely used to follow who tweet from several accounts and who regularly RT between accounts in an excessive self promotional manner.

I RT’d the original tweet as I agreed with it and it prompted questions from a follower asking what if one is a corporate/social group and the other is a personal one?

So when I think about why I don’t like this personally it generally comes down to over the top self promotion, irrelevant content or duplicate content.  Also if someone is following you as a person then it’s likely they will follow both accounts at least to start off with but then these things are likely to prompt un-follows.

People seem to have different views about multiple accounts.  The common theme I hear is that people set up one for personal and one for business.  They may get more followers on their personal account but then RT their business stuff to their personal following.

I’m not sure about this approach.  Surely people follow you as a person, a human being, talking about business and personal together.  Unless you are a big brand where one way information may be valuable to some I wouldn’t expect people to tune into one way broadcasts.

I would just be really careful about RT from multiple accounts.

What do you all think?

I run several 4Networking groups and each has a twitter account. This will continue whether I’m in charge or not. If I’m promoting the 4N group I’ll send a tweet from that account, as I’m currently “admin”. I don’t encourage followers as its a “corporate” account, so I’ll then RT through to my personal followers as I’m recommending it.
This seems the cleanest way to communicate a “corporate” message effectively
